In spite of the UK Government’s recently released Recovery Roadmap, many businesses are still unclear about what they should do to get their people back to work, and whether they should be opening their offices. If your people can continue to work from home for the foreseeable future, great - encourage them to do so. But now is the time to build a practical action plan for returning to the office so that your people remain safe, healthy and happy.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been flat out helping clients to pivot future office design plans, for example towards more resilient space design & new ways of working that blend office and home. Out of this, I’ve developed a new approach called Low Touch, High Connection, which is about connecting people when they can't be together, readying new physical and digital behaviours and allowing organisations to lead with the greatest duty of care.
To help businesses transition back to work as quickly as possible I’ve developed a 4-phase framework and principles for approaching the 'now' and 'next' for the workplace. I will be sharing tools and guides over the coming few weeks with the goal of helping 1000 businesses reshape their workplaces within the ‘new office normal’.
The four stages include:
1. React
Take immediate steps to act responsibly, keep people safe and stay in business.
2. Reflect
Capture the experiences (good and bad) that people have had through the pandemic, and land the opportunities.
3. Reimagine
Conceive and articulate the vision and ways of working of the 'new normal'.
4. Reshape
Define and communicate the workplaces that will enable your business and teams to thrive.
